Whether you’re a writer, a graphics designer or a programmer (or anything else for that matter) it is possible to work from home as a freelancer. It can be hard to get clients in the beginning, and the temptation to slack when you are working from home is great, but give it some time to build relationships with clients and prospects and freelancing from home can offer a very rewarding career.
Here are some tips for getting started:
1. Start off cheap
A great way to start as a freelancer is to offer your services at a very low price (or even for free) in order to encourage clients to give you a try. Remember that at the start you will have little or no experience and people have no way of knowing about the quality of work you produce. Encourage people to try your services and then build up a database of potential clients plus a portfolio of your previous work.
2. Build up a portfolio and list of customer testimonials
If you can show clients examples of your previous work and the comments that your clients gave then you stand a good chance of winning work. Get into the habit of asking for a testimonial from every client you work with.
3. Deliver the right stuff, on-time
The most important thing as a freelancer is the relationship you have with your clients. Get it right and they will come back to you again and again, so make sure you deliver everything they ask for and that you do it all on time.
