The Right Way to do Email Copywriting

If you want to succeed with email marketing, it helps to be very familiar with your prospects and subscribers. When you can understand and even predict the needs of your audience, marketing becomes much simpler. When you email your list, you want to be sure that it’s well targeted to their interests, budget, needs and so forth.

Yet there are also other factors that are important when it comes to email marketing. Not all marketers realize, for example, how crucial it is to be able to write persuasive email copy. If you’re looking for ways to make your emails convert better, make sure you apply the following copywriting strategies.

When you’re writing your email copy, don’t be a pushy sales man. Make sure that you are someone with whom your readers can identify. Focus on helping them and building a relationship. When you put your focus on the "you", then it’s obvious that you’re going to help your readers out as much as possible. Put some time into figuring out how your offer will help your prospects. How will it be of benefit to him or her? Figure out how many advantages exist for your product and feature them within your copy.

Connecting to your reader should be your first priority. Creating your copy in the second person makes it easier for your audience to relate to it. This entails using the word "you" frequently, which speaks to each reader in a direct manner. When readers see "we" or "I," they instinctively lose interest in the copy. Focus on the reader, not on yourself, your brand, company etc.

Copy must highlight the reader at all times; this is mandatory. The way you word your copy will have an impact on your readers, and either alienate them or make them feel closer to you.

Your email copy needs to be clear cut when it comes to driving action. Don’t clutter it by adding too much of fluff or inserting unnecessary facts. You should take steps to ensure that you are trying to get your prospects to take some real action each step of the way. The whole focus of your copy is to make your readers do what you want them to do. Regardless of what the call to action is, you should try and re-instate it as much as possible throughout your copy. If you want to increase your conversion ratio, this is the best way to do it.

Fundamentally, the principles of email copywriting are the same as those of other varieties of copywriting. But like every type of copywriting, you do have to tailor it to your purposes, which in this case would be the goals of your email. You shouldn’t write your copy carelessly. Before anything else, you have to make sure your email is going to be opened and read. A good copywriter can successfully promote just about anything. If you want your copy to do its job, be careful to stay on track with it. It shouldn’t be any longer than it has to be, or irrelevant in any way. If readers clearly understand what your offer can do for them, you’ve succeeded.
