Beginner info on Adwords and traffic

May 9th, 2010

Most every internet marketer has heard about the Google Adwords program, but do you understand what the program is? Adwords is simply a program where advertisers bid a particular amount of money that they agree to pay per click on their ads. For instance, if you are selling RC Helicopters, you might have an ad that shows up on the right side of the Google searches for RC helicopter. When someone clicks on your ad, you will be charged for that click. It might be 5 cents or five dollars, but you will be charged because a person clicked the ad and came to your website. Here are some other things to know about Adwords:

  • You can choose text, image or even video ads. You might want to try testing all three on different sites or at different times.
  • Ad rankings are based on several factors including relevant keywords and text, a good Click Through Rate and higher cost-per-click bids.
  • It is advisable to purchase an eBook or program that walks you through the process to make sure that you are optimizing the Adwords program. Not only should you understand the mechanics of placing the ads, but also how the system works as a whole.
  • You CAN lose money on Adwords, so be careful when first starting out. It is important to watch your numbers carefully as well as watching your budget!
  • Try bum marketing first: Before taking the pay-per-click route, it is best to learn about internet marketing and traffic through the bum marketing method (using article marketing and other free methods). This way, you learn all about search engine optimization, increasing traffic and all of the other components of the business before you invest a lot of money into Adwords. This is one of those things you do NOT want to learn “on the job”.

How to ping Bing search engine

January 27th, 2010

Bing is growing and you should be sending a ping to Bing now and then to make sure your listing is fresh and your site is being indexed correctly. Microsoft is scoring over 4 billion searches per year and the majority of it is on the search engine Bing.

If you have sites up you probably have the seo tweaked for Google. This is fine because Bing will pick up your info. Many have wondered if it is possible to add Bing to the wordpress pinglist. Not really. The best way to ping Bing is to do so manually by submitting your xml sitemap.

The format for submitting your sitemap to the Bing search engine is very simple. Open a browser and add the url in the address field. Done! The corrrect format is, with this site as example:

http://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap=http://www.ibseo.com/sitemap.xml

Obviously, if you want, you can add this code to your pinglist but I just do it manually now and then. If your submission goes through you immediately get a confirmation on the page.

Don´t underestimate Bing as a source of organic webtraffic. The number of searches on Bing have more than doubled during last year (in development) and this year may well see an even faster growth as it moves out of Beta.

Podcasting for easy website traffic

January 7th, 2010

Despite the fact that podcasting has been around for some time now, not many marketers are using it yet. Due to that reason, there is still the newness factor associated with it, which works to your advantage actually.

This is still a new age technology which can bring a lot of targeted traffic to your door if you would let them
in. Here is a brief look into how podcasting works.

Basically, podcasting is like having a radio channel of your own on the Internet. You do not have to bow down to any rules and regulations because none apply. You simply have your audio content which you are beaming to a lot of people on the Internet. These people are your audience. They have, in fact, asked to be marketed. They want to know about your products. When you podcast to them, there is a very
high chance that these people will convert to being your visitors.

So why are these people hot traffic for you? The reason behind that is that podcasting works only for people who have subscribed to your RSS feeds. When you put up an audio segment, those audio files automatically get downloaded to the audio devices of the people who have subscribed to the feeds.
